It is difficult to consider a gated community as a place which can affect its surroundings, its closed design prevents from any relation with the exterior. Indeed thats not fully true, gated communities offers job opportunities plus new services and security to neighbour communities. What is less known is the how living behind a gate does not improve security, it actually creates a a mental barrier that ruins social integration leaning into more insecurity and fear.
This exclusivity offered by gated communities is anything but an obstacle for coexistence, is important to notice that one of mass housing key points is public space and its interaccion with people.
